Hello All!
First of all, thank you to all of you who stopped by, called, emailed, texted, and sent all kinds of smoke signals to welcome me to the Museum of North Texas History! I am thrilled to be here. While I am still working to get a sense of what secrets and treasures this museum holds, it is not a secret that we have passionate supporters who care deeply about preserving our local history. I invite you to participate! Do you like to volunteer? Give or be part of tours? Work behind-the-scenes cataloging? Or maybe help us in staging events in the coming months or years? Whatever your calling may be, we are only too happy to have your help. Here are a few updates on what has been going on at and around the museum –
- Wichita Falls City Council approved the gift agreement on May 16th giving MoNTH several of the former Railroad Museum’s small artifacts. They will be moved to our site in the coming weeks where they will be on display to the public as they are catalogued.
- Art Alley with Artist in Residence Tom Roberts will open during the June 1st After Hours. Admire his work and try your hand at clay sculpting during AHA and from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturdays in June.
These events and more are part of what makes the Museum of North Texas History so special! Come visit us and see for yourself!

Weinermobile Makes Appearance
|
|
Thanks to our curator, Leanne Ray, the Museum of North Texas History hosted the appearance of the Oscar Mayer "Weinermobile" in Wichita Falls and one of the last of the Weinermobile. When the Weinermobile rolled up, adults, as well as children, huddled around it.
On May 17th, Oscar Mayer announced that after 87 years, the Weinermobile would be renamed the Frankmobile.

The Museum of North Texas History was invited to participate in the downtown celebration, Loco for Cinco. Our curator, Leanne Ray, demonstrates the fine art of steer roping. We had fun, but remind me never to try to push a cart four blocks!!

Art Alley Premieres June 1st
|
|
Starting Thursday, June 1, the Museum of North Texas History premieres its “Artist in Residence” program. Our first artist will be sculptor Tom Roberts.
Known for his bronze sculpture, metal, and woodwork, artist Tom Roberts of Byers, Texas, has won statewide recognition for his work in a more unusual medium. Believe it or not… it’s butter.
Roberts, a draftsman at BYSP Architects, finished his first sculpture in 1984. It promptly exploded in the kiln. His 2021 first prize-winning piece, a butter sculpture, in the State Fair of Texas is similarly fragile. In fact, it has an actual expiration date and must be displayed in a refrigerated room.
Kids are invited to sculpt along with Tom during the After Hours Art Walk on June 1st and on Saturdays in June from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
